HISTORY OF THE PROVINCE

Over a century of mission in Thailand — from the first Brothers' arrival in Bangkok to the present-day Province of nineteen communities and seventy-two Brothers.

1901
First Brothers of Saint Gabriel arrive in Siam (Thailand) at the invitation of Bishop Vey, to teach at Assumption College, Bangkok. The seed of the Thai mission is planted in the Bang Rak district.
Early decades
The mission grows from Bangkok into the provinces — new schools founded by Brothers in Chiang Mai (Montfort College), Sriracha (Assumption College Sriracha), Lampang, Nakhon Ratchasima, and beyond.
1937
The Saint Gabriel's Foundation of Thailand is established as a Thai legal entity to carry the Brothers' educational mission across the Kingdom in conformity with Thai civil law. See fsgthailand.org for the Foundation side.
Post-war & growth
More schools join the Brothers' network. Formation houses are established to nurture Thai vocations. The Province grows into a community deeply rooted in Thai Catholic life.
Today
Approximately 72 Brothers serving in 19 communities. The Brothers' mission reaches into 15 schools under the Foundation's care, formation houses for new vocations, and various pastoral and accompaniment works.
For the wider Montfortian story — from Saint Louis-Marie de Montfort (1673–1716) to the three congregations born of his charism — see montfortian.net.

A more detailed history of each community is being prepared and will appear under Brothers · Communities.
