WHY TWO STRUCTURES

The Brothers' religious life — the vows, the rhythm of community, the formation of new members, the bond of spiritual brotherhood — exists under canon law of the Catholic Church. This is who we are.

To carry the educational mission across Thailand in a manner that Thai law recognizes and that benefits Thai society, the Brothers established the Saint Gabriel's Foundation of Thailand in 1937 as a civil entity. This is how a portion of our mission operates in this nation.

The same community of Brothers, called by one charism, working under two legal frameworks that must remain in harmony.

Distinguishing the two structures is important for clarity — especially when corresponding with other religious congregations (a matter of canon law) or when reporting to civil authorities and educational stakeholders (a matter of civil law).
